Read My "About Us" Page

So you’ve come here from Twitter to check me out and see whether you might be interested in following me.  Thank you.  I’m glad you are not just looking to add numbers to your own followers but rather are looking for what may interest you.

And yes, I do follow most people back – especially if they let me know why the followed me in the first place.

You are currently visiting my Blog.  Be sure to look around.  But there’s more to me than that.  Here are ten interesting facts about me:

  1. I started my own business in February 2008 – Laurie’s Cobalt World. – which offers cobalt blue glassware for the home (most of it handcrafted in the USA).
  2. I, with my father, built my own house and then helped him build his in return.
  3. My husband of 24 years and I have four children whom we transracially adopted as newborns.
  4. I love to entertain and spend time with friends; I cook homemade.
  5. I discovered cruising in 2008 (one in June and another in October) and I’m totally hooked.
  6. My husband and I love to dance – ballroom and Latin – and we dance at every opportunity.
  7. I have a pet rabbit website – Precious Pet Rabbits.
  8. I home school three of our four children; my oldest no longer lives at home and is engaged!
  9. Though I rarely talk about politics and religion, I am a Democrat and liberal Christian (Presbyterian).
  10. My husband and I spent 13.5 years in Atlanta where I had a career in human resources – and then we moved to Ararat, Virginia – a place not big enough for a traffic light!

I have two favorite sayings:

  1. Once you are an adult there is no more “they” as in, “Why don’t they do something?”  They don’t do something for the same reasons you don’t.
  2. There are 10 types of people in the world:  those who understand binary numbers and those who do not.  (If you don’t get it, you are one that does not.)

I love musicals and romantic comedies, the best of the classics in music and books, cobalt glass, chocolate, Christmas Eve church services, singing in groups for the fun of it, camp fires with s’mores, learning new things, seeing how other people live especially in other parts of the world, giving gifts that hit the spot, sharing what I’ve learned, holding hands, oatmeal, naps, comedians, Dancing With The Stars and Boston Legal, jokes unless they are prejudiced or unnecessarily vulgar, meteor showers, Holland lop rabbits, Thai food, ice cream, pedicures, special looks, Barry Manilow, writing, air after a thunder shower, a beautiful view – mountains or beach, board games and parlor games, Wii Golf, magic shows, Las Vegas and slot machines, Elton John, visits from friends, long-coat Chihuahuas, people who are comfortable with themselves, Peter Paul & Mary, patriotic music, a job well done, hot showers, pinball, steak, smiles and hugs, herb gardens, cool breezes after a hot day, fresh-squeezed orange juice, learning new dance steps, being organized, open-mindedness, my husband and kids, the Internet and email, costume jewelry, Scrabble, the smell of old-fashioned roses, home-baked bread, Joy To The World, pink depression glass (Queen Mary), large flea markets, silk flower arranging, crafts, Braves baseball, winter Olympics, and much, much more.

I hope that if you found what you are looking for (or are intrigued even if it is not what you expected) that you will follow me.  If I’m not your cup of tea, thanks for stopping by and have a good day.

  1. Thanks for the invite! I don’t know much about this TWITTER just getting started. I don’t always have the time to check to see whats going on. I have a question, why do you want to follow me? Its ok with me if you want. Hope to hear from you. Donna

  2. I actually found your post on The Mogul Mom, then went to your Twitter page and then came here. I felt that I needed to comment since I also love cobalt blue and have quite a few pieces of cobalt blue glassware in addition to three sets of cobalt blue drinking drinking glasses. And, the product that I invented that led me to start my own business is cobalt blue, though it is plastic, not glass. Check out my web site when you get a chance. I’d be happy to tweet and blog about your business. Any chance a cobalt blue baby product might get a review on your blog??? :)
